Bonfire 2024

UPDATE 30 Dec 2024: The municipality of The Hague has decided that the bonfires on the beaches of Scheveningen and Duindorp must be lit tonight (Monday, 30 December 2024) at 23:00. The weather forecast for New Year’s Eve (tomorrow) is too unfavourable, with very strong winds expected.

Annually from December 27th to 31st, the construction of the Noorderstrand in Scheveningen takes place for the Bonfire Scheveningen. This is a tradition in Scheveningen with the aim of organizing the best Bonfire in the Netherlands.

The Bonfire is lit on New Year's Eve, December 31st, around midnight (00:00 hours) to celebrate the New Year. Admission is free. From the Scheveningen Boulevard, you have a good view of this gigantic Bonfire.

Location

The location is at the Strandweg tram stop of tram 11. In Scheveningen, it is locally known as 'de lus.'

Crowds

It can be very crowded on December 31st due to car traffic, so visitors are advised to use public transportation. Most visitors from outside the city are best advised to arrive between 18:00 and 20:00, as there are usually plenty of parking spaces available in Scheveningen.

Starting from 10:00 PM, it's best to find a spot on the Scheveningen Boulevard due to the heavy crowds after 11:00 PM.
