Flag Day 2024
On Flag Day itself, many activities take place that range from 'Schevenings Tafereel' where the visitor gets to see various trades of Scheveningen, to the mustache competition wherein is battled who has the most sexy, most beautiful or longest mustache. There are also activities for kids like a puppet theater, old Dutch children's games and a soccer tournament and there are all kinds of musical performances.
Herring Festival
Flag Day (Herring Festival) celebrates the arrival of the Dutch herring in the harbor of Scheveningen. Originally Flag Day was the day when fishing boats were decorated with flags in the harbor before heading out to catch herring. Nowadays there are other fishing techniques, but luckily Flag Day remained!
