Pier of Scheveningen - Observation point

The Pier of Scheveningen is the iconic landmark of The Hague coastline. Situated on the boulevard, directly in front of the historic Kurhaus, the Pier appears on almost every postcard of Scheveningen. The characteristic structure is open daily throughout the year and can be visited free of charge from 10:00.

Facts and figures about The Pier

• Length of the promenade: 300 metres; roughly a five-minute walk from end to end.
• First Pier (1901): Designed by the Leiden architect Wilhelmus van Liefland. This pier unfortunately burned down completely on 26 March 1943.
• Current Pier (1959): Designed by the Rotterdam architect Huig Maaskant, known for his modernist style.
• International recognition: In 2014 CNN named the Pier one of the most beautiful piers in the world.
• Visitors: Today the Pier attracts more than two million visitors per year.

The Ferris Wheel on the Pier

• First Ferris wheel above the sea: The only Ferris wheel in the Netherlands standing above the sea, right in the middle of the Pier of Scheveningen.
• Opened in 2015: The 42-metre-high Ferris wheel has 36 enclosed, air-conditioned cabins, including one luxury VIP cabin with a glass floor.
• Spectacular views: Enjoy panoramic vistas over the beach, the harbour and The Hague skyline.
• For all ages: A ride takes around 20 minutes and is suitable for everyone.
