Meijendel - Nature

The Meijendel nature area lies between Wassenaar, The Hague and Scheveningen and, at around 2,000 hectares, is the largest continuous dune area in South Holland. The area is part of Hollands Duin and is managed by drinking water company Dunea.

What can you expect in Meijendel?

• Extensive dune landscape: Meijendel consists of high dunes, woodlands, open sandy areas, dune lakes and damp valleys. Thanks to the variety in the landscape, every walk feels different.
• Walking and cycling: There is an extensive network of walking routes and cycle paths. You can choose a short family walk or a longer trip through the peaceful dunes.
• Drinking water from the dunes: Meijendel is not only a beautiful nature area, but also an important drinking water extraction area. Water is naturally filtered here through the dune sand.
• Animals and plants: The area is home to fallow deer, foxes, rabbits, roe deer and many bird species. In the damp dune valleys, special plants grow, including orchids and grass-of-Parnassus.
• Views over dunes and sea: From various dune tops, you have beautiful views over the dune area, the North Sea and, in clear weather, towards The Hague.
• Great for families: At De Tapuit, children can play with sand, water, tree trunks and natural play equipment in the middle of the dunes.

• Entrance: The best-known entrance is at the Meijendelseweg car park in Wassenaar.
• Opening times: The nature area is accessible daily from sunrise to sunset.
• Accessibility: Meijendel is free to visit.
